Your neighbor is on a brief trip and has asked you to watch their dog.
They're going to try and stay out of pocket to relax for the evening, but they specifically asked you to email them how everything is going and they'll read it in the morning.
While attempting to walk the dog, you left the door open and he darted into the woods. It's been over 4 hours, night has fallen, and the dog is nowhere to be found.
Write an email to your neighbor addressing the situation.
It's 7am and Fire Marshal Joe bypasses the support line and calls you directly. He has moved his computer to the top of his desk and now it won't turn on. He has reports due within the hour and he needs you to fix this as soon as possible.
You walk into his office and you see his computer like the image above. He expresses his confidence in you, taps you on the shoulder, and then leaves the premises.
This is a real scenario that I went through so there is a real answer here!
Give me 5 steps that you're going to do in order to try and resolve this.
I've personally noticed that people in IT tend to naturally gravitate toward one of two areas: networking roles or systems roles. Both are essential to any organization, but they involve different skill sets and approaches.
Networking professionals focus on connecting systems, ensuring data flows smoothly between devices, and securing communication across networks. They work with routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems. Their tasks often include designing and maintaining network infrastructures, managing traffic, and troubleshooting connectivity issues.
Systems-focused individuals tend to work with servers, operating systems, and applications. They configure, manage, and optimize the software and hardware that power an organization. Tasks include managing databases, ensuring software updates, monitoring performance, and troubleshooting issues at the system level.
Which path do you feel more drawn to, and why? Are you more intrigued by the idea of building and securing connections or by configuring and optimizing the systems that power everything?
Provide a short explanation of where you think your interests lie and why that aligns with your strengths or curiosity.
